My neighborhood guide to Christianshavn
Are you going to Copenhagen? Our charming neighbourhood, Christianshavn, is worth a visit.
It’s been two years since we moved from the suburb of Copenhagen to the smack-almost-centre of the city – and I absolutely adore living here! There’s eye candy everywhere I look, and my aesthetic heart beats like a teenager in love. Here’s a curated list of things I love in my new-ish hood. Enjoy!
Best coffee in town
This is the place to go for Coffee at Christianshavn—HANS. It’s tiny, but it’s worth it to squeeze in. If you can, maybe get a seat in the window to enjoy the life outside at Torvegade. They also have seats outside and, of course, coffee to go. I can recommend buying their espresso beans from Copenhagen Coffee Lab as well.
Båden
If you go for a walk along the canals, you'll pass by this hangout place for locals. Three vintage locomotive cars have been converted into a cosy living room, and the atmosphere and service are extraordinary! @_baadencph serves delicious pastry and cake, a simple breakfast and open sandwiches for lunch.
Hart Bakery
@hartbageri at Holmen is right by the waterfront and is a great place to go for delicious Danish pastry or your morning roll with cheese and a coffee. However, my personal favourite is their grilled kimcheese sandwich for lunch. They have lots of outdoor seating year‑round, and during the summertime, you can soak up the afternoon sun on their sun chairs. The waiting time can be extreme sometimes, so avoid the peak hours.
Hart Bakery at Refshaleøen is also worth a visit, and both places are a pleasure to visit for interior lovers.
Donda, oh Donda
The food is Latin American, and it's served family‑style. The atmosphere at @dondacph is lively and laid‑back, and the service is super friendly. Your taste buds will love you for visiting this spot!
Feel the vibe
In the crossing between Wilders Gade and Sankt Annæ Gade, you'll find the two restaurants, @cafewilder and @sanktannae8. They both have outdoor seating, and the vibe on a warm summer evening will lead your thoughts to Paris. And speaking of Paris, you'll find Eiffel Bar, a classic Danish pub, next to Wilders Cafe.
Ice ice baby
@confecturecopenhagen makes the most delicious ice cream and homemade guf (meringue‑like ice cream topping). The flavours are so rich that two scoops will send you floating along the canals. I especially like the sorbets – so so good.
Go for a walk
Go for a walk around the neighbourhood and enjoy the coloured houses, idyllic canals, and historical landmarks like the Church of our Savior (our pretty neighbour). You can also enter the Harbour Circle, a path from Nyhavn to Sydhavn. I usually walk from the Circle Bridge, crossing Lille Langebro Bridge and then walk to the Inner Harbor Bridge at Nyhavn. You’ll pass by the Danish National Library (the Black Diamond) and Danish Architecture Center (BLOX), both worth visiting.
Enjoy the waterfront
My absolute favourite thing about living in Christianshavn is the canals and waterfront, and I would definitely recommend to:
⭕️️ Cross the Circle Bridge – the most beautiful bridge in Copenhagen connecting two sides of Christianshavn's Canal.
🍷 Drink wine at @rosforthrosforth in their outdoor space under Knippelsbro Bridge.
🥖 Pick up some charcuterie at Thirion in Prinsessegade and make a picnic on the dock.
🚌 Take the harbour bus at Knippelsbro and sail to Refshaleøen, where you'll find both @reffen_copenhagenstreetfood and @labanchinacph, but also one of my favourite places for contemporary art @copenhagen_contemporary. Their café Connie‑Connie is also a must‑visit for interior lovers.
